They call around 7 at night. I pick up and they don't say anything. I tried calling back and I just get a dial tone. I don't have caller ID - I dialed *69.
I don't answer the phone to long distance calls but when they've been calling every night for the past 2 weeks it starts to get REALLY annoying. Tonight it was at 7:08pm, then 2 minutes later another phone call.
I got the call this @ 12h59. EDT I was expecting a call from a potetial eployer. I have a call disply, so I called this number, n the automatic voice said it's unassigned number. It was annoying than getting a wrong # call on my cell phone!
The company is Acrobat Research. Their contact info is as follows... (and I might suggest eager beavers go to the steps of finding the home phone numbers of the executive (listed below) and soliciting them as much as they find it necessary for their company to solicit us.)
Hey, ask them every question in the world about why they feel it is okay to solicit us without our approval. - especially at dinner time as they find it appropriate to solicit us.
Also, the questions they ask are inappropriate - don't hesitate to let them know. i.e. "Hello, is there a male over the age of 18 in your household?" My mother got this call and she was unable to sleep and ended up also calling me (her son) to come over because she was so scared! For every single mom, woman, individual, & son out there who knows the world can be a bit scary - we really should let these people know this is not acceptable.
Their contact info is below and the names and contact information of the executive are:

I got a call from 1-866-794-8255 this evening.Somebody on the line was saying, they are calling from a "church..." and conducting a "survey". This is so discusting that somebody would go this way to get the attention. What happend to so called DO NOT CALL LIST?
If you are on the "Do Not Call List" it does NOT apply to Market Research. This list applies to Market calls (sales calls and not research calls). The government recognizes people's opinions and also market research helps the economy by improving products and services.
For some surveys, we are required to ask for a particular person in the household. This is done because either those are the survey requirements OR we are lacking surveys for a particular gender or age. When this happens, the agents are TOLD to ask for example: a male 18 years of age or older.
This company works off of a dialer system. The dialer makes calls from the computer while the agent waits for a beep to indicated that someone is on the line. The dialer has been known to have people waiting on the line for the agent to get to them. Sometimes we've heard them tell us they've said hello three or four times. Of course the agent is at fault and we're the ones who are "hanging up" when ACTUALLY we're not even on the line YET. Sometimes we don't even realize it's an answering machine - it's dead air so we say hello a couple of times to see if anyone is there - hence the "hello, hello messages left on the answering machines".
The surveys ARE legitimate. Obviously someone hired our company to do these surveys. Now, if we actually revealed WHO hired our company, then there would be no point in doing the surveys.. the answers would be biased. Example: someone hates "Toyota" and the survey is revealed that Toyota is sponsoring the survey - they would likely rate Toyota much much lower than what they would have not knowing the sponsor.
Our unemployment rate in our city is VERY high. This attracts the prospects to create call centers in our community to drop the unemployment rate. Now... I can't speak for everyone but I'm pretty sure we would all love to have other options for employment.
Anyways, bottom line, please keep in mind that we are doing our jobs trying to support our families. If you're not interested, please just say so and make sure to also refuse for your household if that's the case.
Thanks.
PS to Elizabeth: We probably said "We're calling from Acrobat Research" and you heard "something, something... church". I don't think anyone would deliberately say a church, our calls are monitored for quality assurance.
Got a call from this number with a woman on the line asking all kind of completely inappropriate questions about my finances - how much were my mortgages, with which institutions, how much credit card debt did I have, had the economic crisis affected me etc. She told me that they had gotten my cell (which is not public) from one of the banks I have a mortgage with, and they had information about this account which is not publicly available. No need to say that I called my bank right away, who swore they never gave my information to any kind of research company, that they would never ask a research company to ask such inappropriate questions to a client (they already have most of this info anyway) so it looks like some sort of scam is going on. Please be very careful if you get a call from this company, do not disclose any kind of personal information they are asking for. They clearly obtain the information on file with my bank in a way which is illegitimate, I will try to do what I can do to fight this from the US. If anyone has any advice as to how I can proceed to do so, please let me know. Thank you!
