Dear friends,
Please do not believe the call from 03-2178 8888 Ambank Customer Service Hotline.
This happened in my family.
Incident 1 My father received a call from Ambank last Wednesday. The customer service officer was told that my father having an outstanding amount of RM3,800 in credit card account.
My father was felt weird and called me to check. I told my father to ignore the call since he does not have any account in Ambank. But he insists me to check & gave me
the number that appeared in his mobile, which is 03-2178 8888.
Finally I have called to Ambank Customer Service Center & told them regarding the incident. The officer told that they have received a lot of customer complain regarding the
same incident recently. They have been make a police report regarding the incident. She told me NOT to believe those calls from 03-2178 8888
because the hotline is for public to call in and the same number will not appear if the call is really from Ambank’s staff.
Incident 2 My youngest brother received a call from 03-2178 8888 from Ambank yesterday & the guy want to check with my brother whether he is using the credit card to buy jewelry from
Poh Kong in KLCC & the amt is about RM3,000. My brother was wondering because he does not have any credit card from any bank. Then the guy told him that maybe there is someone
using my brother identity to applied their credit card. The guy said my brother has to pay a outstanding amount of RM5,000 which has been swiped previously even though he does not have
the card. My brother was very angry, but the guy taught him to report to Bank Negara and he directly transferred the line to “Bank Negara Officer”.
The “Bank Negara Officer” told that my brother has to change all the PIN number of his saving accounts since his identity has been used by somebody. “The Officer” asked my brother
to go to ATM ma chin e immediately and he will call my brother again to teach him how to change the PIN number. He told my brother not to check his account within 3 days after change the PIN number.
My brother was wondering & he told the “Officer” that he only can do it by next day. At last, the “Officer” asked my brother go to the ATM ma chin e at 10am the next day & he will call my brother.
After hang up the call, my brother called me & told about the incident. I have asked my brother to ignore it & told him regarding the incident that happened to my father last week.
My brother told that those “Officers” were very professional & make him felt that incident is really happen.
Dear Friends, Please be aware of the call from 03-2178 8888.
My mum just called me and told me Ambank called and said she owe them Rm3000 of credit card bill. She has saving account in Ambank, but don't have credit card. Luckily I am surfing the net, and i straight use google search the phone no. Then, saw this web! Thanks a lot!
Found this website from my friend. Me also received call from this number 03-21788888.
It happened during my working hour. When this phone no. appeared on my mobile screen, I was wondering who is it since this is not a number save in phonebook of my mobile phone.
At first I heard a female lady voice with proper Mandarin saying that I have a transcation of RM3852 in KLIA but still not yet pay the bill, then asking me to press 5 to confirm or press 9 to talk to operator.
Feeling weird as I do not have a Ambank account or Ambank credit card, I pressed 9. The phone no. connected to a man voice with not so fluent English.
I spoke to him and told him I do not have any account or credit Card with Ambank. I ask him the details of this Card. He told me is a Ambank MasterCard Gold Card, Card no. 5455-1932-8653-8017 with credit limit RM10K. Current outstanding is RM4573 including the RM3862 stated in the lady phone conversation earlier. At first I also ask myself, my salary allowed me to apply this "Gold Card"? Nah...only Classic Card eligible for me now... Gold Card? Wait few more years la...
I argued with him and he said it might be a identity theft case where my IC being used to apply this card. He told me this card applied on 21 Sept 2009 at Plaza OSK, Ampang.
He suggested me to lodge report with Bank Negara "Unit Kad Kredit Palsu". He ask me to onhold while he connected me to the "Officer" in Bank Negara. At this time the phone connected through, my colleague was beside heard my conversation with this man. He ask me to careful as there already some case similar to this, I immediately hang up the call.
After that, I "google" this phone no in web and found some newsreport about this. Apparently this number was a number for customer to call in to Ambank but not the officer from Ambank call out to you.
Luckily I didn't give out any credit card number / pin number / account number because earlier on I given out my name and IC number to him to check this card "existence". According to newsreport, if you give out any account no, then you're already being cheated by "them".
Now still feel uneasy as I already given out my name and IC no. Not sure to lodge a police report or not.
Please beware as they are getting professionals nowadays... Trust no one at first even received a call / SMS from someone claimed that they are from bank. It would be better to call back to the bank instead of the bank call you. Or better still go to the bank personally but not using any phone call.
Maybe you should jot down your bank contact number (ATM, Credit Card centre etc) for reference. Who knows you might need it later.
i received this call from 0321788888 in like 15 minutes ago. told my friend, he said eh bro what happen? u better check it out. i was thinking i dont own credit cards, and maybe the previous owner of my phone number has an outstanding amount. it was suspicious with the caller machine tone. so i googled for the number and found this web...it seems like they're calling more and more 'victims'. we need to do something to stop this!
saya pun terkena mcm ni.. dan rugi RM6 ribu dalam sekelip mata... masalah saya saya percaya no ambank tersebut sebab memang save dalam hp saya untuk kecemasan, so memang percaya.sama kes kata ada orang palsukan kad kredit dan kena link dan pegawai dari Bank negara..akhirnya saya ikut arahan nya transfer duit kepada pgwai Bank negara yg incharge kes ini only 3 hari... semua kad ATM saya bawa dan transfer duit. mungkin panik, bila balik rumah hati tak sedap.. cuba search kat google, dan banyak kes mcm ni dilaporkan... macamana mereka bolae guna no AMBANK??? that make me to belive them... very sad story 30 dis 2009
Just received the call at 2.12pm and the operator tone lead me to become suspicious of the call and I end it. Cross-check with Ambank and google on the net (tq for your site) and confirmed it as a hoax. I send an email to Ambank to ask them to do something, make a statement about this and change the hotline no. Is that really hard for Ambank to do? After all yg kena tipu all Ambank customers..
I too got a phonecall today from this number 03 21788888 and told about my transaction on my credit card which is I do not have. I did not press any number as was told to do so. Got to know it was a scam til I google here.
I just received a call from 03-2178-8888 10 minutes ago and decide to google this number. The same thing happened, an automated teller lady voice with a chinese accent saying I need to confirm a $3800 credit card transaction from Ambank. I waited for the message to repeat itself then hang up. Thank god I got no dealings with Ambank. That prompted to me immediately it was a scam. After reading this forum, I am wondering how come Ambank is not taking any action at all?
I received a call from03-21788888 but did not answer. However, there was a message and i listened to the message. It asked me to confirmed my transaction of RM3800. First of all, I ignored the message as it really sounded not Professional. Spoken in English but with a very thick dialect. Then I called the 2178 8888 number of course, nobodu picked up. I goodled the number and found this website.
Hence, now after reading all these, I shall be lodging a report to BNM.
got this number calling me this morning, since its my habit not to answer the stranger's called(the number whom i did not store at my phone) so i neglect the call. Then i search it on the net and voila i found this site. Thanks for the infos given here and i really appreciate for the first poster to share the incident here as it will help lots of people. I think its time to report to the police bout this matter. thanks
