Got a sms which said

Congratulations! You won 3rd Prize of our company promotion with Cert O2187
Contact us ASAP or else your prize will be cancelled. OCD Company 0280149800. Called and was asked for ID details relating to winning $100,000 US.

This sounds exactly like a scam I encountered in the Philippines. Caller told me I'd won a major prize due to recently purchasing a SIM (which I had - all very convincing). Asked me to verify my ID by purchasing prepaid cards (approx. A$60 worth!) and sending them the No's which I did. Was told they would not be used blah blah blah. Checked next day while waiting for their call back to confirm so we could access the win - of course all the cards had been redeemed! Blew my $60. Then they upped the ante by asking me to pay (in Pesos) about $400 worth of 'tax' before winnings could be paid. By this time I smelled a rat. Realised it was a scam, but very believable up to that point. Informed the police, gave them phone No's, names etc. but they did nothing of course. Probably a fairly common scam over there, but they didn't even warn me to be on the lookout for this type of phone scam.
So beware of unexpected notification of lottery wins etc, most likely scammers and they can be very smart and believable!
